Newsday.com's users have spoken, and more or less agree on the four plot lines that may drive 'The Sopranos' series finale, 'Made in America.'
Paulie betrays and kills Tony
Johnny Drama from NYC believes that it was Paulie Walnuts all along. Sea Dog is even more succinct: Paulie Walnuts flips to the Leotardo Family and whacks Tony. As Jess T points out, it's a Mafia story and should have no happy ending.
Pros: The clues for Paulie Walnuts becoming Judas have been all over the wall: the botched murder of the Ukrainian, his flirting with Johnny Sac, the sinking feeling in the Miami boat that T was about to kill him like they killed Big Pussy, his dislike for the whole crew during his mother's wake, getting passed over by Bobby.
Cons: Paulie loves Tony and despite his overtures, has always been loyal. An upcoming Soprano movie without Tony?
Paulie betrays; Tony kills him
On a variation on the Paulie is the rat theme, gidouttahere from Huntington Station bets that Paulie will buy it after failing to kill Tony. And he might even fess up, according to another user.
Pros: Sentimentalism has always gotten the best of Paulie, he might be a cold-blooded killer, but is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Cons: Although Paulie might not be smart, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he needs to be very careful and not reveal his hand.
Overwhelmed, Tony sings to the feds
As Jason from Centereach sees it, the New York crew simply overwhelms Tony, who is forced to join the Federal Witness Protection Program. He moves Carmela and the whole pack to Idaho, a la My Blue Heaven, while T gives the goods about Leotardo to the feds. Dan from NYC says that the previews of the finale show an office and that could only be the FBI office.
Pros: Sil's out of commission, Bobby's dead and Paulie can't get anything right. FBI Agent Dwight Harris has been rather fond of Tony's help with the two supposed terrorists. It's this or almost certain death.
Cons: T has always hated rats (ask Big Pussy Bonpensiero or Adriana), and deep down he may have a death wish.
It was all a dream
Nothing seems to rattle up Soprano viewers more than Tony's weird dreams, from ducks scooping up genitals to his dead parents. The consensus from the dream theorists is that this is a dream concocted by Kevin Finnerty, T's alter ego during his apparent coma fantasy. Thus, the finale shall reveal that this was all a dream.
Pros: The show has been big on dreams all along, and this would explain the first episodes of season 6.
Cons: Many fans would probably burn their TV sets in disgust and sense of betrayal. Movie chances go out the window.
