After all the fights, heartbreaks and fashion statements, Gossip Girl is coming to an end. While fans may be sad, the two leading female stars, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, think it’s time to move on.

“I think the best way to describe it is like someone who really enjoyed high school, and is like, I’m a senior and I can’t wait for the next thing,” Lively, 24, told Bullett Media in May. “Because, you know, six years is a long time,” she later added.

Lively, who plays Serena van der Woodsen on the The CW hit show, will appear in “Savages,” an Oliver Stone film expected this summer.

Although Meester, 26, who plays Blair Waldorf, described the end as “bittersweet” to E! News, she has different plans. “I want to release an album by the end of the year,” she said. The star has been touring with rock band Check in the Dark for over a year now. “Playing the same character for six years is great, but it’s exciting to do other things…” Meester also said.

The show’s sixth and final season will air this fall.
