Holly Madison says she'll ingest her own placenta
Totally gross or perfectly natural?
Former Playboy playmate and “Girls Next Door” star Holly Madison says she intends to ingest her own placenta after giving birth to a daughter, due anytime now.
“This might sound gross, but I’m totally planning on having my placenta turned into pills I can take after giving birth,“ Madison, wrote on her blog Wednesday. “I heard it helps women recover faster and I want to recover as quickly as I can!“
It may come as a surprise that the ex-girlfriend of Hugh Hefner is not the first celebrity to endorse the controversial practice: “Mad Men” star January Jones touted the power of placenta last year after giving birth to her first child, Xander Dane, in September 2011.
“Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins,” she explained to People. “It’s something I was very hesitant about, but we’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas.“
Jones credited the pills -- along with vitamins, teas and eating well -- for giving her the energy to tackling a grueling shooting schedule when she returned to work on “Mad Men” six weeks after her son's delivery.
“It’s not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!” Jones said.
Moms, what do you think? Are placenta pills nasty or a great idea? Would you do it?
