Anne Hathaway's voice is front and center in this new trailer for "Les Miserables," a sure vote of confidence in her ability to carry a musical movie.

That's somewhat surprising, given that the film's other star, Hugh Jackman, has Broadway credentials and is probably far more accustomed to singing than Hathaway (her song-and-dance routine with her future co-star at an Oscar ceremony a couple of years back was the first time most folks had heard her singing voice). Even Russell Crowe, who also stars in the film, has voice experience with his rock band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts.

Another point to note about the film is Hathaway's ravaged appearance, a different look for the actress. As the character Fantine, she shaves her head to sell her hair, a scene that can be briefly glimpsed here.

"Les Miserables," directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech") is due in theaters Dec. 14.
