Thirty-six years ago Tuesday, the late-night TV sketch show that would break the record for most Emmy nominations premiered.

Saturday Night Live was first hosted by Andy Kaufman on Oct. 11, 1975.

The show's guests included musician and author Janis Ian, as well as R&B singer Billy Preston.

Saturday Night Live has racked up a whopping 126 nominations since its beginning.
