'The Lego Movie' trailer starts to click
The new trailer for “The Lego Movie” seems to be striking the right chord among bloggers and critics. That's a good sign for a film based on one of the best-loved toys in the world. It's a brand you definitely don't want to tarnish. Legos have been around since the late 1940s, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't love them deeply as a child.
“The Lego Movie” seems to know that nostalgia will be a key selling point. The trailer includes mentions of Lego Wonder Woman and “1980-Something Space Guy.” The familiar, overall-clad Lego construction worker, here named Emmett, is voiced by Chris Pratt. And yes, that's Morgan Freeman as a Lego wizard.
What's most interesting, though, is the animation. It looks like stop-motion, slightly crude and jumpy, just like the movies so many geeky 9-year-olds made with their Super 8 cameras. This may be actual stop-motion, CGI or a blend of the two. In any case, the rough, homemade look could be a big part of the movie's charm.
Also in the cast are Will Arnett as Batman, Will Ferrell as Lord Business and Liam Neeson as a character called Bad Cop.
“The Lego Movie” is scheduled for release Feb. 7, 2014.
