Woody Allen receiving Golden Globes honor at January ceremony
Woody Allen will receive the 2014 Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the Globes, made the announcement Friday.
“There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen,” said the HFPA's president, Theo Kingma, in a press release. “His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure.”
The announcement suggests that Allen will be on hand to accept the award, which would be an ununsual sight to say the least. Allen typically doesn't show up for awards ceremonies. Even at the Oscars, where he has been nominated more than 20 times, Allen has shown up only once, as a goodwill gesture to thank Hollywood for its support of New York following 9/11.
