Snoop Dogg, now known as Snoop Lion, has changed his name and found religion. The West Coast rapper once known for lyrics including “I’m a gangsta, but ya’ll knew that. Da big boss Dogg, yeah I had to do that,” is turning to the mellow sounds of reggae. It seems the rapper has joined the Rastafari movement.
But Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus, won’t be the first to change...Read more »
It seems like certain athletes emerge from every Olympics as stars. Many Olympians bring home a gold, but an even more select bunch capture the public imagination in some ineffable way. It’s early to say yet, but the excitement about swimmer Missy Franklin’s performance — and her “just a normal kid” bio — suggest she could be an All-American sweetheart of the London 2012 games.

Peter Jackson’s two-part adaptation of “The Hobbit” will be expanded into three films, according to Warner Bros.
In a statement, Jackson said “the richness of the story” demanded a third film, which is now slated for release the summer of 2014. “The Hobbit,” starring the British actor Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 prequel to “The Lord of the Rings,” a trilogy...Read more »

It’s the nonjock in me, but when I watch the Olympic games I am easily distracted by the uniforms. This weekend’s coverage was a regular fashion show wherein each sport entailed its own very specific get-up.
First and foremost: beach volleyball. On Saturday I was reminded that the men’s team does not wear bikinis as, famously, do the women. I guess what gets ratings for the goose is a turn-off...Read more »
Watching the women’s indoor volleyball, USA vs. Korea, and I think I have a new hero: Destinee Hooker.
Sure, there’s the fabulous name, which will surely inspire a new generation of drag queens. But look at this woman -- she’s killing out there. (And “kill,” I’ve just learned, is an actual volleyball term, not just hyperbole.) The 24-year-old Texan has got the longest legs you can imagine...Read more »

Organizers expect 1 billion to watch the ceremony crafted by “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle and that includes us here at Pop Cult. We're ready to see Queen Elizabeth II and James Bond, the battle between Lord Voldemort and Mary Poppins and, of course, Paul...Read more »

This week's episode, "Control," has all the ingredients for a seemingly classy episode — a dinner party, beautiful people and a brisket. I only hope I didn't speak too soon.
While Ryan and Jenna are on the beach with Wilfred, Amanda stops by in the midst of her Sunday morning run. Ryan introduces both ladies, but was upset about the circumstances they had to meet in. His solution...Read more »
