The debut of an online lottery for $10 tickets to the Broadway hit “Hamilton: The Musical” crashed the website Tuesday when tens of thousands of people tried to enter.
“Due to over 50K unique entries, Broadway Direct’s lottery site has fully crashed,” the musical’s Twitter page posted. “As a result, we cannot award any [ticket-lottery] winners tonight.”
The producers said they would hold a live lottery on Wednesday “while we work on remedying this problem.”
Writer-composer-star Lin-Manuel Miranda explained in a tweet, “The issue is, the system sent ‘you’ve won’ emails to more people than we have seats for.”
