Stephen Sondheim to receive Louis Auchincloss Prize, plus more theater buzz

THE DEAL It turns out there is an award that Stephen Sondheim hasn't already received. The Museum of the City of New York will present the songwriter with the Louis Auchincloss Prize on Nov. 19 at an extremely pricey gala performance -- tickets start at $1,000.


THE MUSICAL "Fun Home"

THE DEAL While it is still unknown whether the acclaimed Jeanine Tesori-Lisa Kron musical "Fun Home," which opened at the Public Theater on Oct. 22, will make a move to Broadway, the Public has extended its Off-Broadway run for the second time to Nov. 17. Without that extension, the musical would have closed last weekend.


THE MUSICAL "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"

THE DEAL Disney Theatrical Group, which produced a stage adaptation of the animated musical "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" in 1999 in Germany, is now looking to revise the piece, with the possibility of producing it in New York or regional theaters. A developmental production will take place in January directed by Scott Schwartz, with original songs by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and a new book by Peter Parnell.


WHAT BAM season

THE DEAL The Brooklyn Academy of Music has unveiled its spring season. In addition to the previously announced Chichester Festival Theatre staging of "King Lear" with Frank Langella, BAM will also present a production of Ibsen's "A Doll's House," which originated at London's Young Vic as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe in "The Old Man," which is based on a Daniil Kharms novella to be directed and designed by Robert Wilson.
