With lackluster showings from Janelle Arthur and Amber Holcomb -- plus a powerful Beyoncé cover by Angie Miller that came out of nowhere -- on Wednesday's ladies' night, Thursday's results show was set to go one of, well, many ways.

The big questions: Has Arthur lost her opportunity to prove she belongs in this competition? Judge Nicki Minaj, for one, was less than impressed with her on Wedesday. Also is Miller the new girl-to-beat after belting out Beyoncé? And finally, will the judges use their one save of the season on whichever contestant got the least votes from America?

Before all is revealed, some early "Idols" we haven't heard from in a while, Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken and Fantasia Barrino of Season 3, return to the stage to remind us how annoying they both are.

Now, the results. The first contestant to make the Top 4 is, unsurprisingly, Candice Glover. Next, Miller. Are they announcing these in order of votes? Seems like it.

But no, Ryan Seacrest wasn't bluffing -- they must truly be in no particular order, since the next contestant to move on is Holcomb, whom nearly half of our "American Idol" psychics here at Newsday predicted would get the fewest votes.

And yet, it's not a total upset, as Kree Harrison moves safely through, leaving Arthur to sing for survival. Her twangy performance of Diana Ross's "You Keep Me Hangin' On" isn't enough to convince the judges to save her. Randy Jackson says it's split down the middle at the panel -- two for her, two against -- so back to east Tennessee she goes.

What do you think? Did Janelle Arthur deserve elimination? Should the judges have used their save on her? Drop us a comment and let us know.
