Chris Watson and Kevin Harris bore some, thrill others on 'American Idol'
Kevin Harris next on "American Idol," showing off his sweet tone on "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You." The song is cheesy and he's off-pitch, but he's so joyful doing it you can't help but smile, especially when he goes falsetto.
Keith Urban praises his range, calling it "very good." Nicki Minaj calls his musical choices "perfection," and thought his vocals were strong. Randy Jackson says he was "bored," called it "karaoke," didn't love it. Mariah Carey breathily says he's been one of her favorites, but wished he'd picked a song that let him soar more.
Chris Watson takes control from the start of "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay," swaggering out there in his studded leather vest. Has the sound and feel of a fun summer concert; he's got a nice tone, and no nervousness at all. Gets the judges swaying, shows off some attitude and makes a song from 1967 feel contemporary.
Urban says the vocals weren't great, but loved how he carried himself and dressed. Minaj calls him "the prettiest man I've seen in my life." She says she wants to "marry your vibrato," and loves how his voice conveys emotion. Jackson loves his look but not his vocals, says he was "bored." Carey didn't think the song was a great fit, but calls him a "survivor" with a "beautiful face" who connected with the crowd.
