American Idol

Candice Glover won "American Idol" Season 12 over Kree Harrison as Psy, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, Adam Lambert and Aretha Franklin performed.

Gurpreet Singh Sarin, aka 'Turbanator,' Ashlee Feliciano and Angela Miller get 'American Idol' judges talking

Albert Chang is up next. He doesn't speak English that well and "American Idol" is sort of making fun of him -- except their subtitles claim he says he's from "Regal Park, Queens" which doesn't exist. Obviously, the Fox producers have never heard of Rego Park.

He does "Phantom of the Opera," and is horrible. He's followed by some other bad singers, with Nicki Minaj amusing herself by critiquing them in a mock British accent.

Angela Miller, who has hearing loss, is next. She is doing Jessie J's "Momma Knows Best." She's good and has a classic pop star look, too. I'm not crazy about the song itself but she performs well. Mariah Carey likes her "real tone with a real soul behind it, and a beautiful texture." She moves on to Hollywood, easily.

Self-proclaimed "Idol" superfan Brett Holt sings Nat King Cole's "When I Fall in Love" after the break. It's mediocre and he doesn't move on.

Gurpreet Singh Sarin, who's a Sikh and tells Randy Jackson he goes by "Turbanator," has a nice tone and even throws in some classic Indian singing.

Neither Keith Urban nor Minaj think his voice is strong enough, but Carey and Jackson want to put him through. Urban says no, and then Minaj says... "you're going to Hollywood!"

People are going to be talking about this guy (if for no other reason than his lavender turban and matching outfit). Just hope his voice can measure up.

Ashlee Feliciano closes the NYC auditions of "Idol" -- her family has fostered and adopted a number of "medically complex children." She's singing "Put Your Records On," and from the get-go she's a total pro. She's got a beautiful tone, great control and is pleasing to listen to.

"So pretty, so 'I wanna come to your show,'" says Nicki Minaj. "Really nice and clear," says Mariah Carey, with Keith Urban praising her tone. Randy Jackson tells them to bring in her giant, diverse family, one of those Hallmark moments.

Feliciano's through to Hollywood, easily. Good end to a solid season opener.
