Jessica Sanchez stands out, Elise Testone’s dress is one hot mess on 'American Idol'
We love Elise Testone’s gutsy voice – it’s special and we want to hear more. The dress she wore last night, however, while also unique, needs to be eliminated from her wardrobe.
Egads, there was so much going on in the black sequin mishmash – an embellished mini dress topped by a sheer skirt with stripes of glitter and a honker necklace. And what was that ungainly giant black pouf hanging from her hip? A loofah maybe?
We hate to be mean -- really -- but the look is the definition of the word “ungapatchka,” which in case you didn’t know is defined by the Urban Dictionary as, “overly ornate, busy, ridiculously overdecorated, and garnished to the point of distaste.” Um, yeah, that’s it.
For the most part, the rest of the crew including the judges got the black-, white- and red-all-over memo.
Jessica Sanchez, as usual, was standout in a white futuristic, sparkle-striped, jacket-dress with structured shoulders worn with black leggings and according the judges, Jennifer’s shoes . . . these sky-high Christian Louboutin’s adorned with spikes at the toe. “She has good taste,” said Jennifer Lopez.
Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler were sparring over Colton Dixon's red and black striped jacket that appeared to have a hoodie sewn in and some sort of hook embellishment on the lapel. “That jacket is crazy fly,” Jackson said.
Joshua Ledet’s white jacket with black piping actually fit better this week, though the short, tweedy pants not so much. He veered off the group color scheme with a raspberry shirt and matching socks, which Jackson said he loved.
Skylar Laine looked and sounded better than ever in a black and white patterned high-low hemmed dress with a black, leather-like top and even Hollie Cavanagh was OK in a lacy white frock with feathered trim. It wasn’t a fave, but at least it was young and flirty.
We’re sensing that Phillip Phillips is giving up. He’s too self-deprecating – even going as far as to say Testone was the better singer of the two. It’s almost as if he’s too cool for school, and this translates to his wardrobe which while for him was amped up – an army green jacket and black shirt – is just not cutting it. That said, we like him best of all, but don’t think he’ll win.
Back at the judging table, well who but Steven Tyler could get away with a python duster? And we got a kick out of Lopez’ somewhat ironic get-up: a killer-sexy black, dominatrix bandage dress worn with an itty-bitty gold necklace that said, “love.”
