Lazaro Arbos and Angela Miller are next up on "American Idol" to learn their fates -- and, as expected, Miller joins Candice Glover and Kree Harrison in the top three. It's the same top three as when I ranked the performances last night.
It is then revealed that Arbos finished fourth overall and is safe. In fifth place is Amber Holcomb, who definitely deserves to stay. In sixth place,...Read more »
"American Idol" kicked off its finals with the women dominating, as Candice Glover, Angela Miller, Kree Harrison and Amber Holcomb topped the field -- with Burnell Taylor the only guy making any sort of impression.
Nobody was amazing, although Glover's version of "I (Who Have Nothing)" drew raves from the judges and the audience, as did Holcomb's "A Moment Like...Read more »
Devin Velez next on "American Idol," singing Carrie Underwood's "Temporary Home." He's got a purity to his voice; fits well with the lyrics and feel of the song, comes across as heartfelt and genuine. Not doing anything flashy or tricky here tonight, just standing on stage and singing.
Keith Urban says "that was not one of your better performances -- the wrong...Read more »
'American Idol': Amber Holcomb stunning; Angela Miller, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Aubrey Cleland fantastic
Amber Holcomb got a standing ovation on "American Idol," topping the other female favorites -- Angela Miller, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Aubrey Cleland -- on another stellar night for the woman.
All four judges stood for Holcomb after her stunning performance of Whitney Houston's "I Believe in You." She doesn't look like a star, yet; but there's something...Read more »
Tenna Torres next on "American Idol," going slow and dramatic with Faith Hill's "Lost." She's swallowing the words a bit, not always on key either. Not sure if this is really her sweet spot; good vocal overall, but not memorable for me.
Keith Urban tells her not to "let the camera pull you off your emotion," just be yourself. Nicki Minaj appreciates how well she...Read more »
Amber Holcomb steals our hearts as Kree Harrison, Adriana Latonio star as 'American Idol' starts setting semifinals
Amber Holcomb was the breakout star on a strong night of "American Idol," surprising everyone with a fresh take on "My Funny Valentine" that got the judges on their feet and the audience whooping.
An impassioned Kree Harrison also impressed, with smooth Angela Miller as always showing us she's pretty much a pro already, and Adriana Latonio showing flashes of a...Read more »
Angela Miller, Adriana Latonio, Amber Holcomb, Kree Harrison and surprise Tenna Torres make 'American Idol' semifinals
"American Idol" is about to cut five contestants; shouldn't be any surprises -- pretty obvious who should go on and who won't based on their performances tonight.
First up is Jenny Beth Willis; she's going to get cut, and indeed is. Brandy Hotard next, should be cut too; and she is. Tenna Torres steps up, should be cut too; oh, and she is not! Does not bode well for one of my favorites,...Read more »
Angela Miller next on "American Idol," in a simple black outfit singing "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time." She has a fantastic urgency to her voice, and sounds professional. Has the moves, the look, the performance down already. Plus strong vocals and the ability to emote; for some reason I admired it more than I loved it.
Keith Urban says "you have a beautiful...Read more »

The group performances during the Hollywood round for the "American Idol" women were a train wreck -- not sure I've ever seen a worse round on this show.
At least three groups did "Somebody That I Used to Know," and they were all terrible or horrible (to pick a couple words that the judges kept resorting to tonight.)
Only two groups were actually good; if this is...Read more »
