Candice Glover 'exquisite,' Janelle Arthur 'lackluster' on 'American Idol'
Janelle Arthur next on "American Idol," doing "I'll Never Fall in Love Again." It's instantly forgettable; vocals are fine, but she adds nothing special and it just seems like a cover.
"That was good," Keith Urban says. Nicki Minaj says Arthur could be a commercial success, "but I thought that was really boring." Randy Jackson calls it "lackluster," tells Arthur to do something interesting each week. Mariah Carey likes her hair.
Candice Glover next, singing "Don't Make Me Over." She's strong; total pro, belts out the song and gets the tone just right, doesn't seem like an old song. Winds up making a not-great song shine. Judges give her a standing ovation, audience is into it too.
Minaj loved how she made it seem contemporary, "you were born to do this — that was exquisite." Jackson believes she's in it to win it, calls it the best vocal of the night, "one of your best performances ever."
Carey liked how she made a classic current and showed another side of herself. Urban tells us she's now in his top three, which given that there are only six people left and Arbos and Arthur are clearly second rate, isn't that big of a compliment.
