“Breaking Bad” actor Aaron Paul spent Monday in Greenport filming the Hulu series “The Path.”

The village will serve as a backdrop for parts of the show, which premiered in March and also stars Michelle Monaghan and Hugh Dancy. In the drama, Paul plays a man questioning the controversial cult to which he and his family belong.

The one-day filming began about 9:30 a.m., with scenes shot along Front Street, First Street and other areas of downtown Greenport, according to village officials.

Rena Wilhelm, who owns The Weathered Barn on Front Street and is a big fan of Paul and “The Path,” spent part of the morning watching the production from the stoop of her store.

“I’ll be very, very excited to spot my shop and the village,” when she sees the show, said Wilhelm, adding that Paul and his wife, Lauren Parsekian, browsed through her business in between takes and posed for a picture with her.

The signage in front of some businesses was changed to make downtown Greenport look like a town in Canada, Wilhelm said. Cars with Canadian licenses plates were stationed along the street. A parking sign on Front Street was covered with a street sign for Route 15, which runs through New Brunswick, Canada, and a sign advertising poutine, a Canadian snack, was placed outside the village’s Old Schoolhouse.

“It’s not every day that your street is turned into a film set,” said Scott Raulsome, owner of Burton’s Books on Front Street. “Though a very minor inconvenience, it was very cool.”

Parking was not permitted on one side of First Street and other areas of the village during filming, according to village officials.

Filming wrapped up around 5 p.m., officials said.
