Intrigued about the popular dating app Tinder, late night host Conan O’Brien decided to see what the hype was about himself signing up for the service -- and he invited “21 Jump Street” actor Dave Franco to accompany him in a skit that aired on “Conan” Thursday night and has been a hit on social media.
O’Brien is 51 and married, but to the Tinder world, he became 42-year-old Chip Whittley. Meanwhile, Franco, 29, the brother of actor James Franco, created the pseudonym Djengus Roundstone.
After O’Brien’s only match, a 74-year-old named Gloria, stopped answering his advances, he failed to keep his promise that “things wouldn’t get weird,” and the duo drove in a old van O’Brien nicknamed “brown lightning” to meet one of Franco’s nearly 10 matches, a 25-year-old named Courtney, at her brother’s house.
“This is what the Internet can do,” said at the end of the skit to the camera, joined by Franco, Courtney and three guys that tagged along. “It can bring a bunch of people who were strangers just an hour ago together in the night onto the street outside a really creepy van, where they hold themselves for a little too long, and then will probably never see each other again.”
As of 6 p.m. Friday, video of the skit has been shared more than 40,000 times on Facebook, where it’s been trending for most of the day.
