Well, as you know from this picture, something unexpected happened last night.

It concerns one of the people in this picture.

That would be the one on the right.

If you don't wanna know what happened then do not do not do not do not read another word. Go back to your pleasant morning, as this is not pleasant...

  OK: Have you moved on?

   Rita is gone.

  For good.

A final Trinity victim before Trinity himself becomes a victim.

In a bathtub, from whence it all began.

This is, naturally, a huge deal, as Rita - Julie Benz - was, in part, Dexter's cover, his beard, his tie to normalcy, and suburbia, and a calm professional and personal life.  Shattered, in an instance.

 Clyde Phillips,
one of "Dex's" top producers, slightly hinted in online chats last week that an explosive finale was inevitable. Said he of this season's set-up, Trinity - Lithgow - actually gave the guy hope, that a "normal" life was possible if only because he seemed to have had one over so many years. Finally, a complete illusion.

Here's what Phillips told "EW's" Michael Ausiello, after the ending:

"The story evolved and it kind of became inevitable. We knew that we had to do more than kill Trinity. It's a little bit of a corner that we paint ourselves into. Last year we tried to avoid that and actually I think we didn't do as well as we could have."

Below, I've posted a clip that seemed to telegraph another ending - a clip that circulated widely last week.

No one - Dexter included - acticipated what actually happened.
