Entourage 6/4: Welcome to Facebook, Vince

"Entourage" catches some wreck for often appearing outdated with its pop culture references. Vince doing the Jay Leno show in the season 6 premiere is one example.
But these things happen when you shoot episodes months in advance. Plus, it's a half-hour comedy and escape from the real-world troubles we deal with each day, so it's not worth getting too worked up about it.
In this week's episode, Vince discovers Facebook . . . and what it has become.
Vince: "Remember Kimberly Kirsch?"
E: "No."
Vince: "Yeah, neither do I, but apparently I was her first kiss in the fifth grade. She's got four kids now but she still looks hot."
Yep, that's pretty much what we thirtysomethings all do now on Facebook. We find people we went to college with, or junior high school or whatever, and see what's going on. Then we share all that info with our other friends. How many times have you said to one of your close friends: "Yo, you wouldn't believe who found me on Facebook last night? What? Yeah, yeah, she still looks good."
It's sanctioned voyeurism at its finest. Go ahead and look at your "Friends" list and see how many of them you haven't spoken to since the last time you were in a classroom with them? Aside from occasionally using the "Like" function on their status updates.
Don't read this the wrong way. I'm not hating on Facebook. I think it's a fantastic technological evolution. Twitter, on the other hand, well, Twitter can go the way of Josh Weinstein and we'd all be fine.
Back in the day, Facebook was just for those in college (or with a college e-mail address). Then, they opened their books to the entire world and now Friendster and MySpace are the pop-culture references that appear outdated.
P.S. By now, you should all know about my penchant for the random names they drop on "Entourage," so if anyone has any insight about Kimberly Kirsch, fire away!
