It wasn't a school holiday, but Elizabeth Sudlow and her friend Rebecca Ponce - both 16-year-olds from Bellmore - showed up at Roosevelt Field before dawn Monday to be among the first in line for "Glee: The Music, Vol. 1." The first 400 fans to purchase the 17-song CD from the hit Fox-TV musical comedy series received wristbands entitling them to autographs from eight cast members, who emerged at 4 p.m. on the concourse outside the f.y.e. music store to wild cheering and an explosion of flashing cell phone cameras.

Sudlow, accompanied by her father, Michael - who took the day off from work - wasn't first in line. That distinction went to Meghan McKillop, 20, a C.W. Post student who arrived at 3:30 a.m. to a mostly deserted mall - more than six hours before the debut "Glee" CD went on sale the first day of its release. "I just had to be here," McKillop said, adding that her favorite character is Finn, quarterback for the fictional McKinley High football team as well as the glee club's hottest male singer. He's played by Cory Monteith, who was among those who appeared, along with Lea Michele ("Glee's" Rachel), best known as Wendla in "Spring Awakening," 2007's best musical Tony winner.
Sudlow, who favors Puck, the school bully played by Mark Salling, says, "I told my teachers that I'm proud to be playing hooky today."
Dianna Agron, the cheerleader Quinn on "Glee," says she's "overwhelmed by the positive response. It's what you want, what you wish for - to be appreciated - but we didn't expect such intensity." Jenna Ushkowitz, who grew up in East Meadow - she's Tina in "Glee" - was among Monday's signers.
The cast rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " on the new CD has just been certified gold for digital sales with more than 500,000 downloads. In all, songs from "Glee" have racked up 2 million downloads. "Glee: The Music, Vol. 2" can't be far behind.
