Jennifer Garner goes back to Appalachia to spotlight the poverty there on "American Idol." She makes the excellent point that the kids here start out way behind their peers in terms of schooling, so it's hard to ever catch up.

Wow, Garner is really effective. She clearly cares a lot about the issue of early-childhood development and is intelligent and empathic during her segment on "Save the Children." One of the best celebrity spokeswomen I've ever seen.

Victoria Beckham jumps on the bandwagon back in the studio with Ryan. It's like she's reading off cue cards. Two kids talk about how the program has helped them. One of them went from having a hard time reading to president of her class.
