Memorial Day TV roundup: 'The World Wars,' 'Bomb Girls' and more

Memorial Day provides a pause to honor those who died on behalf of our country, and TV helps commemorate their sacrifice, from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan.

But there are other things to watch on this day off, too -- movies, series marathons, cartoons to keep the kids occupied.

PREMIERES

* "National Memorial Day Parade" (2-4 p.m., Reelz). Live from Washington. Hosted by wounded veteran and "Dancing With the Stars" winner J.R. Martinez.

* "The World Wars" (Monday-Wednesday 9-11 p.m., History). One timeline chronicles the 20th century's two global conflicts, 1914-1945, through dramatic scenes told from the perspectives of leaders including Roosevelt, Churchill, Hitler, Patton, MacArthur. Narrated by actor Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker").

* "Chosin" (9-11 p.m., American Heroes). Filmmakers who served as Marines in Iraq detail the savage Korean War battle.

* "Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy" (9-11 p.m., Reelz). Meg Tilly stars in new TV movie set in a World War II munitions factory. (Preceded by "Bomb Girls" encore episodes, 4-9 p.m.)

* New Tuesday on PBS/13 -- "D-Day 360" (9 p.m.); "Frontline: Battle Zones: Ukraine & Syria" (10 p.m.).

MILITARY MOVIES

AMC, MGM and Turner Classic Movies go wall-to-wall. Recommendations include "Sergeant York" (7:30 a.m., TCM), "The Longest Day" (9 a.m., AMC), "Battle of Britain" (7:15 a.m., MGM), "Windtalkers" (1 p.m., AMC), "Pork Chop Hill" (6:15 p.m., MGM), "Pearl Harbor" (7 and 10 p.m., AMC), and "The Best Years of Our Lives" (10:30 p.m., TCM).
