THE SHOW "Brothers"

WHEN | WHERE Friday night at 8 on Fox/5

REASON TO WATCH Michael Strahan

WHAT IT'S ABOUT Famous ex-football player Mike Trainor (Strahan) comes home to help brother "Chill" (Daryl Mitchell) with his struggling restaurant. But sibling rivalry becomes a major issue, partly because Chill, who's disabled, is jealous of his bro. Mom (CCH Pounder) works hard to keep the lads apart, while Dad, or "Coach Trainor" (Carl Weathers), is mostly oblivious, or interested in sex with Mom.

BOTTOM LINE Giants fans - if not opponents - always knew Strahan had innate charm, but who knew the guy could act? In fact, he can. Let's not get carried away here - no Emmys will be conferred now or in the distant future - but he's not bad here, and even holds his own against three good and very seasoned actors.

The show? Another story. "Brothers" is only OK: Neither offensive ("The Cleveland Show" has that department nailed down) nor particularly funny, it's merely another average, laugh-track-addled sitcom. The four leads are fine; they just need better material.
