The 37th annual Westchester Cat Show will be held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains this Saturday and Sunday. The two-day event, which generally draws around 1,500 people per day, will feature more than 200 purebred cats competing for championship prizes in categories based on breed standards.
In addition to the competition, the event will feature the Meow Wear Custom Feline Fashion Show each day at 2 p.m. The fashionable felines at the popular event will model clothes designed by Carla Reiss for a standing-room-only audience.
With the holidays coming up, you may also need a gift to put under the tree for your furry friend. The Meow Marketplace will offer toys and other types of unique products for cats.
“If you are looking for toys to give your cat for Christmas, this is the place,” said Leslie Masson, the cat show publicist. “We have items you can’t find in PetSmart.”
And while your cat may not be feeling the holiday stress like you are, he or she would probably still enjoy a little relaxation. Guest lecturer Carole Wilbourn will demonstrate Reiki, a form of touch therapy used to relieve stress and pain, for cats.
Of course, the cat show is not only a place to see cats, but also to adopt them as well. Four local shelters will have dozens of cats and kittens who are looking for homes. In addition, a portion of the event's proceeds will be donated to local animal welfare groups
