Beyonce to headline 'Sound of Change' charity concert in London
One of Beyoncé’s biggest hits is the female empowerment anthem “Run the World (Girls),” so it’s fitting that the pop star will headline Saturday’s “Sound of Change” concert in London, which is being held to bring awareness to issues that affect girls and women worldwide.
The all-star concert will be held at Twickenham Stadium in London on June 1, and will also be broadcast globally, although details on the broadcast have not yet been announced. The show is being sponsored by “Chime for Change,” was founded in February by Italian fashion design company Gucci as “a global campaign to raise funds and awareness for girls' and women's empowerment.” Beyoncé is one of the organization’s founding committee members, as are actress Salma Hayek and Gucci creative director Frida Giannini.
"Girls have to be taught from early on that they are strong and capable of being anything they want to be," Beyoncé is quoted as saying on the Chime for Change website. "It's up to us to change the statistics for women around the world. I'm honored to be in the company of women who live fearlessly and set an example for the next generation.”

According to Reuters, proceeds from the Sound of Change concert “could fund at least 120 projects supporting women and girls in more than 70 nations, if all the tickets are sold.”
Joining Beyoncé on the bill are Jennifer Lopez, Florence + the Machine, Ellie Goulding, John Legend, Rita Ora and Timbaland. A multitude of celebrities and other notable figures are scheduled to attend as presenters, including Madonna, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Chastain, Gloria Steinem, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Bedford resident Blake Lively.
No word on whether Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, will perform with her at the concert. But the couple, who picked up their marriage license in Scarsdale, have been known to join each other on stage, such as when Beyoncé appeared with Jay-Z during his final Barclays Center show last year. So it seems like a good possibility that Mr. Carter will team up with his wife, especially for a cause near and dear to her heart.
(And no doubt having Jay-Z with her during the show will also deter any overzealous fans who would dare to slap her on her derriere, as is what happened to her at a Mrs. Carter tour date earlier this week.)
