Last chance to visit Storm King Art Center this fall

The 2012 season is winding down for the Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre sculpture park in Mountainville, which remains open through Nov. 25.

Newsday Westchester recently visited Storm King for a look at the massive outdoor artworks by Roy Lichtenstein, Maya Lin, Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi and others. Nora Lawrence, the associate curator, shows off some of her favorite works in the video, above.

If you're planning a visit to Storm King, dress for the weather -- the venue is open rain or shine -- and expect to spend at least three hours touring the expansive grounds. You might also consider renting a bike to get around ($10 an hour or $40 a day on weekends) and bringing a picnic lunch (you can also dine in the on-site café).

After viewing the breathtaking sculptures made of rocks, wire and tires, among other everday materials, you may come to the same conclusion as John Kuehndorf, a 10-year-old from Mountainville who recently visited Storm King.

"Pretty much art is like... it can be anything."
