The novel: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1917)
The author: Washington Irving
The setting: It was in the Dutch settlement Tarry town (now known as Tarrytown) that poor Ichabod Crane lost his head to the Headless Horseman.
Immortalized in books, movies and on the stage, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” first published in 1820, has been a pop culture staple for many years. Now two creative teams are keen on bringing the iconic tale to life on television.
According to TVLine.com, The CW is in talks for "Sleepy Hollow," a drama that gives a modern spin to Washington Irving’s classic short story. The series would follow FBI agent Ichabod Crane as he arrives in the Westchester village to investigate a beheading. The series is from “Missing “ writers Scharbo and Patrick Macmanus.
Another drama, also named “Sleepy Hollow,” is in development and has earned a pilot commitment from FOX. This version, created by “Fringe” and “Hawaii Five-0” producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, is also a contemporary take on the Headless Horseman tale. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will focus on Ichabod Crane teaming up with Sleepy Hollow’s female sheriff to restore order to the supernaturally besieged community.
