John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States and the second governor of New York State, built a home in Katonah after he retired in 1801. Four generations of his family lived at what is now the John Jay Homestead National Historic Site until 1953. Today, visitors to the homestead can see how Jay and his family lived at the restored home or walk the 62 scenic acres, which include gardens, forests and numerous historical buildings. The Friends of John Jay Homestead organize events throughout the year.
