The Smith Haven Mall is an anomoly among other Long Island shopping destinations -- it has both indoor and outdoor spaces. The entry area is open with plenty of benches for seating, plus well-manicured lawns and stone walkways. There's also a Cheesecake Factory with outdoor seating on nice days. Inside, the hallways have high ceilings with sky lights and are filled with comfy seating areas.
In addition to apparel and accessory favorites, there a couple of spots only found here on Long Island like Gilly Hicks Sydney, a labyrinth-like store selling women's intimate apparel and body care.
There's a three-story Barnes & Noble just outside main entrance with frequent events and author readings.
If you're hungry and not in the mood for something from the sun-filled food court, the Bobby Flay restaurant, Bobby's Burger Place, is another dining option.
