Tracy Reese: Quirky combos and a cat on the catwalk
First off, there was a cat (yep, a real one) on the catwalk at Tracy Reese’s show. Lily, a 4-year-old Siamese Blue Point rescue cat, took to the arms of a model wearing a bright floral frock who carried the feline. Reportedly, the cat was supposed to walk down the runway on a leash, but got a little scared – yep, a scaredy cat. Cats aren’t that good on leashes, but pet food brand Purina ONE, which sponsored the show and provided the cat, believes there are benefits to leash-training cats. Enough said.
A traffic light hung from the back of Reese’s runway, and the designer put out a series of quirky, fun looks…some of them traffic stopping. Her muse was the spunky city girl – an eclectic, slightly eccentric magpie, who would have no problem slipping on say… a slouchy animal print coat over a black cheetah sequin sweater and skinny tan pants.
It was all a little wacky but super cute with mixed prints, bold colors, unlikely fall florals and rich embellishments. In one case, Reese showed perfectly lovely lacy lady dress that she paired with flat booties for a city edge (and maybe comfort). She mixed scarlet tartan plaid with a medallion encrusted tee, or to keep it simple, a graphic zebra trench over a stretchy floral dress.
It was all sort of luxed up, struggling gallery girl meets NYC party animal…not a cat, though.
