As gym teacher Sue Sylvester on "Glee," Jane Lynch is known for her track suits. But she was all glam last night, wearing four David Meister gowns as host of the Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The news on the red carpet was "red" -- the most popular dress shade. And "none" -- as in necklaces. Hardly any. Gonzo earrings? Sure. But beneath them, clavicles were bare.

Nina Dobrev, of "The Vampire Diaries," went blood red, poured into a Donna Karan strapless with wide ruffled hem. Betty White played it old school, wearing a red-and-black jacket and gown "from a little shop I like to call the back of my closet," she said.

Other fiery looks: "Glee's" Lea Michele, in poofy-shouldered Marchesa; Kate Winslet, in a "really comfortable" Elie Saab; Sofia Vergara, in flaming orange; and Kathy Griffin, in Oscar de la Renta spaghetti straps.

Even Ryan Seacrest got the red treatment, wearing Griffin's lipstick after she planted a lip-smacker on his kisser.

Emmy-winner Julianna Margulies came to his rescue with a tissue.

"I shouldn't be wiping your lips with a white dress on," she said, wearing a grand Armani Privé strapless shaped like a Champagne flute.

Jon Hamm went suave (in a Tom Ford tux). LL Cool J rocked a white bow tie and newsboy cap, Jon Cryer a tux with leather lapels.

And the "we're worried" patrol? That's Gwyneth Paltrow, in a Cher-like black lace Pucci with bare midriff like "I Dream of Jeannie." Elisabeth Moss, in PTA hair. And Paula Abdul, in a decent black strapless, but did it slide askew when she exited the limo?
