Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington), the retiring U.S. Congressman for New York’s Third District and the author of the political satire “The Global War on Morris,” will appear as Turner Classic Movies’ guest programmer this Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m., Newsday contributor Frank Lovece reports.

Israel, 58, who lives in Dix Hills, will introduce three movies he picked, calling Michael Ritchie’s “The Candidate” (1972) “the most authentic view of campaigning I’ve ever seen in a movie,” Frank Capra’s “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” (1939) “a political cult classic” and Franklin J. Schaffner’s “The Best Man” (1964) “the classic moral quandary” between standing by one’s principles and winning elections.
