On her return to "Good Morning America" following her coming out last week on Facebook, Robin Roberts proudly spoke about her partner, Amber Laign.
"I have never been happier or healthier than I am right now," Roberts told co-anchor George Stephanopoulos on air Monday. In her Dec. 29 Facebook post, she said she "was just full of gratitude, and just telling everyone that I'm grateful for including my girlfriend, Amber, who really led me through a really difficult year."
Roberts, 53, had been combating the rare blood disorder myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, and her year-end Facebook message celebrated the anniversary of her reaching the critical milestone of 100 days past her bone-marrow transplant.
On "GMA" Monday, Roberts also displayed a family photo she had tweeted on Sunday, from the Baton Rouge, La., wedding of her niece Judith the day before.
"There is Judith and her husband, Tony, and my sister Dorothy and [my sister] Sally Ann, the mother of the bride," Roberts described. "And next to me is my girlfriend, Amber, and my sister-in-law Cynthia and my brother Butch."
Roberts added that before attending the wedding, she and Laign had vacationed over the holidays in the Caribbean's Turks and Caicos Islands and in Ogunquit, Maine.
Laign, who is from the San Francisco Bay Area, is a massage therapist in private practice who specializes in helping patients recover from injuries. She and Roberts, who met through mutual friends, have been in a 10-year relationship that Roberts' family, friends and co-workers were privy to.
