THE SHOW "The Secret Lives of Women"
WHEN | WHERE Tuesday at 10 p.m. on WE
THE DEAL Four women - including two from Franklin Square - will be profiled on "Shopping Addicts," which focuses on women who struggle to control their overspending and are trying to regain a semblance of fiscal health.
DANIELLE'S STORY Danielle Dellilo-Berardi coped with the 2000 death of her father by abusing an ATM card. During a monthlong trip to Italy, the then-college junior ran up a $10,000 tab shuttling from the Prada store to the Gucci store and back.
"I would say, 'Well, Daddy would want me to reward myself.' I know it couldn't bring back my father, but in some way, shopping made me feel better," said Dellilo-Berardi, now 30 and an employee at a Long Island university. She ultimately paid off her debt from her inheritance.
A decade on, Dellilo-Berardi views her collegiate extravagance as "very foolish," despite its roots in a personal loss. She was recently married, and could have used the money to pay for the wedding.
ANGELICA'S STORY. The other local is Angelica Boccella, 21, also of Franklin Square (the two women don't know each other), whose problems with money remain complex.
Boccella, according to a "Secret Lives" rep, has a shopping addiction that has "spun out of control" in the past four years as the young woman was tempted by designer clothes, bags and shoes.
Boccella uses mom Lisa's credit card for drinks at Starbucks. When the card is taken away, she still finds ways to spend money - even though her father has just lost his job.
