ABC's 'Nashville' has soft-ish landing
"Nashville," by critical acclaim the best new drama on the major networks this fall, had a relatively soft launch last night, seen by just under 9 million viewers, well behind "CSI' which had slightly under 11 viewers.
On the glass half-full front, "Nashville" actually had the largest audience for an ABC series in a year (said ABC), and the best performance among younger viewers in a year as well. Any concern for ABC on the total viewer front? Probably not too much. It's worth noting that nearly half of all TV households now have DVRs, which means the so-called "live plus 7 [day]" figure will be of much greater relevance.
But the network did give it a powerful lead-in — back-to-back originals of "Modern Family" — though it's a matter of some debate these days whether "lead-ins" work much any more.
