Talk about getting off on the right foot. Oscar winner Ang Lee will direct the pilot of Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff's forthcoming series for FX, "Tyrant." This will indeed mark Lee's television debut.

Per FX chief John Landgraff in a statement:

"Ang Lee has demonstrated time and again an ability to present characters with such depth and specificity that they reveal the universal human condition,” said Landgraf. “No one could be a more perfect film maker to bring Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff, and Craig Wright's Tyrant to indelible life."

Not a lot is known yet about "Tyrant," other than the fact that it's a drama about an American family that gets pulled into a Middle Eastern conflict. (IMDB and FX confirm as much) but this hire sure puts it on the map in a hurry. Production begins this summer, per FX. Along with Alex Gansa, Raff and Gordon are "Homeland's" showrunners, while Lee won his most recent Oscar for "Life of Pi."
