BET announces T.J. Holmes late-nighter; Wayans series
'Tis the season for the upfronts, and BET just announced that it's getting back into the late night game -- with T.J. Holmes. Holmes, the longtime CNN anchor/host joined BET a while ago, so this isn't in a big surprise. His show will be called "Don't Sleep!" and is apparently a replacement for "The Mo'Nique show," BET's other late-nighter, canceled last summer.
In addition, this new Wayans series is arriving: "Second Generation Wayans," starring Damien Dante Wayans and Craig Wayans -- nephews of Keenen Ivory, Damon, Kim (and so on.) It's unknown if the famous uncles will make an appearance. Here are both announcements from BET:
A fresh new voice joins the ranks of Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert and Bill Maher. T.J. Holmes gives you a good reason to stay up late with Don’t Sleep. With hilarious “correspondents,” T.J.’s sure to have viewers rolling with laughter over the absurdity of today’s hot-button issues. Speaking through a unique and smart African-American filter, T.J. invites the community to wake up on the issues that affect them, so don’t sleep on the stories that mainstream news outlets won’t cover. The show will also open ears with captivating, unexpected musical performances. Don’t Sleep reports with keen focus to keep Black America engaged and in the know. T.J. takes off his tie and rolls up his sleeves — this is not your mama’s late-night talk show.
And the Wayans show. . .
Craig Wayans and Damien Dante Wayans come from America’s first family of comedy. Their co-star George Gore II is best known for his role as Big Head Junior in Damon Wayans’s sitcom My Wife & Kids. Second Generation Wayans is a hilarious, new, scripted family comedy. However, as it turns out, being a Wayans isn’t all fun and games. Viewers see the good, the funny and the ugly as the young trio emerges from the long shadows of their aunts and uncles to carve out their own paths to stardom. Starring Craig Wayans, Damien Dante Wayans and George Gore II.
