"Chelsea Lately" -- E!'s long-running (or long-running for E!) late-nighter -- will end Aug. 26, the network announced a little while ago. And what's next for the host? Let the guesses flower, but if we are to take Chelsea Handler at her word -- and there's no reason why we shouldn't -- then the next stop is nowhere, at least on TV.

Nevertheless, the Handler exit has been a mystery -- precipitated by a well-traveled tweet showing her holding what looked to be something of an Easter egg: A book that had a CBS logo which suggested she was in line to replace David Letterman or Craig Ferguson, or whomever one's imagination wanted to run away with ...

Handler has been reasonably clear in public on the matter however: No more TV talk shows.

“I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years,” said Handler in a statement. “I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I'm glad I went.” And per E!:

The network will say farewell to Handler’s comedy series with a month-long celebration of special episodes and surprise guests leading up to the live series finale on Tuesday, August 26 at 11:00pmET/PT.
