Fox's 'The Goodwin Games' and office-based reality show get airdates
"The Goodwin Games" -- with Becki Newton and Scott Foley, but of greater note, created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas -- finally has a date with destiny: Monday, May 20, 8:30. (Ah, very close but not quite opposite "How I Met Your Mother" at 8:30, but that's what contract stipulations are for.) As you may recall, "Games" is about some adult children who stand to inherit millions if they follow the eccentric wishes of dear old deceased dad.
And this: The somewhat interesting, somewhat creepy office-based reality show concept, "Someone's Gotta Go" -- since renamed to the kinder, gentler "Does Someone Have to Go" -- starts at 9, May 15, right after the first part of this season's "AI" finale. This series has been in what's called "turnaround" for years for reasons unclear; it is, or rather was, about officemates selecting which one of their peers should be fired. Of course, that explains why it's been held up - it's a horrible idea. But wiser heads have apparently prevailed and reworked this, or at least softened its edges. Here's the current description:
New unscripted workplace experiment DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO clocks in with a special preview Wednesday, May 15 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the first night of the two-night season finale of AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 ET live/PT tape-delayed). In the series, which makes its time period premiere Thursday, May 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), the boardroom doors get blown wide open when employees are given the power to make some tough decisions. Frustrated bosses will hand over the reins of their companies to the employees, offering their respective staffs a chance to make changes in the workplace – even if it means letting co-workers go. Each participating office will have its own set of issues, which will force them to take a hard look at what’s plaguing their workplace and answer the toughest question of all: DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO?
