Lambert's 'GMA' dead; Dave, "Early" have him
It's done. The plug is pulled. Adam Lambert's "GMA" concert is DOA.
Lambert was to have performed a concert for "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, but ABC has killed it dead dead DEAD. (Nothing like an extra "dead," in caps, for dramatic effect, no?) The statement: "Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."Meanwhile, I expect the statement any minute now from "The Early Show" that he'll be on there instead, tomorrow...
Oh goodie. There it is: He'll be on "Early" tomorrow. Hide the children.
And also this: He's on "Late Show with David Letterman" tomorrow too.
So why all the love from CBS and all the hate from ABC...?
You know the reason: The AMA fiasco (or clever and devious marketing ploy; your choice) and ABC's west-coast feed surgery, then AD's hit on ABC at the LATimes (see below.)CBS was just plain smart - get Adam while Adam is hot.
The ABC move is interesting for a whole lot of reasons, notwithstanding the fact that concert cancellations in November sweeps are almost unheard of. Moreover, Lambert has an interesting relationship with ABC, given that "20/20" aired a much-promoted interview over the summer in which AD said "I am gay, and I'm very comfortable with it..."
But the AMA performance didn't just break taboos but nuked them - one man simulating the act of fellatio on another man? This makes Madonna lip-locks look like a Sunday school picnic game - albeit a very interesting game. Here's what AD told Ryan Seacrest a little while ago re: "GMA:"
"Obviously I respect their decision, they gotta do what they gotta do. It's too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me."
"They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. I respect their decision - I don't necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do." [Oh, and below - yet another look at the performance that killed an important GMA outing... Here's what he told the LAT's "Pop & Hiss" music blog after ABC dis-embowelled the AMA performance for west coast viewers..."If it’s gonna be edited, then in a way that's discrimination. I don't mean to get political, but Madonna, Britney and Christina weren't edited," Lambert said. "It’s a shame. Female entertainers have been risqué for years. Honestly, there's a huge double standard."
"Lambert said his goal wasn't to upset anyone with his performance: "I'm just trying to have a good time onstage. It’s a sexy song. It’s 2009, it’s time to take more risks. It’s about entertainment. People want to be surprised. It’s too bad that people are so scared."]Tags: adam lambert , good morning america , AMA , ABC , american idol , ryan seacrest , the early show , late show with david letterman , cbs
