'One Life to Live,' 'All my Children' on Hulu -- and for free

The soap opera "One Life to Live" will

The Online Network, which has revived ABC soaps "One Life to Live" and "All My Children," said today that both will launch in the "spring" and both will be available — daily — on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes. But the key words here: they'll be for free (so presumably ad supported).

“I believe that both Hulu and iTunes have the vision, the reach and the technology to help us launch TOLN in a significant way,” [said Prospect Park chief Jeff] Kwatinetz. “We think these platforms are part of history, helping us to transform distribution. Hulu’s reach, platform and advertising prowess are best in class, and iTunes provides an incredible way to buy TV shows that is second to none. Through both of these partners, we hope daytime drama fans are absolutely delighted to be able to watch their favorite programs in a broadcast-quality HD format wherever and whenever they want.”

Hype aside, this is exciting for a bunch of reasons — notably, you can expect that if this works, more Prospect Park-produced shows will follow. Meanwhile, Hulu and iTunes have a pretty large maw for programming — one might even call it "infinite." This is potentially good for soaps, good for actors, good for writers, good for creative people — and especially good for fans.
