Simon Cowell: The Great Sphinx

He's the great sphinx! And he's said nothing

Day 7 - a week - and still no word from the Great Sphinx on the hiring of Ellen DeGeneres.

I'm beginning to wonder whether Simon will acknowledge her when she's on the show this January?

Simon (turning to his right): "Oh, who are you?"

  Ellen: "I'm Ellen."

  Simon: "Ellen who?"

I see the New York Post finally picked up my story yesterday about Simon's incredible yawning silence over the most important hire in "American Idol" history.

Good for the Post. Even if it didn't acknowledge that it read it here first.

This may be my new mission in life:

Getting Simon to comment on Ellen.

I think I'll run a post every day until Simon comments.

I think it'll begin this way:

   Why hasn't Simon commented yet?

You, dear reader, will get bored really quickly.

But this is my new obsession. Obsessions can be boring.

I can see the day when Simon finally comments.

I'll break open a bottle of cheap champagne that I've saved for the occassion.

I'll toast the gods of "Idol."

And then, sadly, I'll realize: My purpose in life has been achieved.

   Now what?

Speaking of questions, here's a question.  I read somewhere and I'm pretty certain it was the Los Angeles Times, that Ellen signed a five year contract.

That's the most fascinating fact of this entire story. Because consider: Ellen will be on this show long after Simon is gone. It might just be Ellen, Kara and Randy on stage then.

Or maybe they'll hire the Hoff by then.

Maybe that's why Simon isn't commenting. He's thinking, "what's the point? I'll be gone soon enough. Why give the world and Gay some stupid BS quote like, 'I'm thrilled the brilliant Ellen DeGeneres is joining the show.' No one will believe me anyway. Because I'm not thrilled. I'm not thrilled at all. And I won't lie my way through this one. I'm too rich and powerful to dissemble. That's the best thing about being rich and powerful...No dissemble."

  Nevertheless, Simon. I'm waiting...
