Tim Hetherington profiled on HBO this Thursday
A profile of a brilliant and acclaimed photojournalist, Tim Hetherington arrives this Thursday on HBO: "Which Way is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Times of Tim Hetherington. Airs at 8 p.m.
Timing here is perhaps notable and entirely unintentional: Hetherington, who died April 20, 2011, in a rocket attack in Misurata, Libya, where he and a group of reporters were covering the fighting, spent a career covering terrible tragedies such as the one that happened in Boston Monday. He truly had seen it all, and covered it all over several continents the last two decades.
I've seen some of the doc, and it is very very good -- a deeply personal look at the man and his work, and his legacy. Posted two clips here. First, a recent "CBS This Morning" interview with Sebastian Junger, his friend and colleague, with whom he codirected "Restrepo," the 2010 Academy Award-nominated film about the war in Afghanistan.
Next, a clip of the documentary. I've also posted the "Restrepo" trailer -- some harsh language, but a searing look at what soldiers in Afghanistan have faced most every day for the past decade.
