Network TV promo departments have been known to hyperventilate hyperbole from time to time, but CBS's excitement over "The Good Wife" in recent days may have exceeded even normal decibel levels: The biggest episode of the year?!

So say the brief announcements -- a declaration that pretty much precludes the rest of the season at this point. But I have seen this Sunday's "Hitting the Fan" and yeah, it's quite good. This is another one of those changing-the-whole-game turning points that strip the show down to is emotional studs, and then send it careering off into a whole new direction. "Wife" fans have seen this coming all season, of course, and in fact right from the start when Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Cary (Matt Czushry) got set to shove off from Lockhart Gardner. What better time to have this all come to a crashing head than at the outset of November sweeps?

As mentioned, a typically smart, well-acted/directed/written episode that twists "Wife" into something new, while establishing a re-energized dynamic with regards to Alicia and her dear governor elect/husband himself, Peter Florrick (Chris Noth). It's impossible to describe this in any detail without giving away the store, so let me resort to my own modest hyperbolic effusion to say that this is -- absolutely -- the biggest episode of the year -- so far.

Here's a good clip (from the end of last Sunday's "Outside the Bubble") that sets up this Sunday's  showdown, followed by the promo. And Newsday app readers, please watch at Newsday.com/TVzone if you want to see Will Gardner clean off a table as efficiently and effectively as a waiter -- a bad one.
