Sarah Palin - one of the highest paid and for a time most visible contributors on network news - has severed her ties with Fox News, according to various reports, including blog Real Clear Politics, which reported (according to a source) that "It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement. She remains focused on broadening her message of common-sense conservatism across the country and will be expanding her voice in the national discussion.”

Fox has since confirmed. (See below). And go here for: What went wrong at Fox News for Sarah Palin - let us count the ways...

A surprise? Not really: There have been any number of reports that the relationship had become increasingly fraught, while Palin's interests seemed to lie elsewhere. How fraught? Palin publicly complained when FNC cut her appearances and interviews during the Republican National Convention, with this Facebook post:

I'm sorry Fox cancelled all my scheduled interviews tonight because I sure wanted to take the opportunity on the air to highlight Senator John McCain’s positive contributions to America, to honor him, and to reflect on what a biased media unfairly put him through four years ago tonight. Granted, our honored and esteemed war hero has gone through much more than the liberal media can ever do to him in their efforts to harm this patriot. I look forward to hearing his words to his fellow Americans tonight more than any of the other convention speeches. God bless John McCain. Thank you for everything. And happy birthday, my friend.

Missives like that do not fall on deaf ears at Fox which not only esteems loyalty but demands it.

Bill Shine, FNC executive vice president, said in a statement, posted at Nytimes.com, "We have thoroughly enjoyed our association with Governor Palin. We wish her the best in her future endeavors."

She began on Fox almost exactly two years ago and - if memory serves - it wasn't exactly an auspicious start.
