After a 17-year run, Barbara Walters will step down from co-hosting duties on "The View" on May 16, but she stopped short -- far short -- of saying she was "retiring."
In fact, ABC News said Walters, 84, would remain with the network "for life," occasionally handling news assignments when warranted. She will remain on "The View" as executive producer with Bill Geddie, with whom she created...Read more »
Rosie O'Donnell -- who had a ferocious flameout on "The View" back in '07 -- will return to the scene of the crime Friday. (Must be "sweeps" -- and sure enough, it is.)
Here's Barbara Walters' statement:
"I have great affection for Rosie and we have remained in contact through the years. I am happy to welcome her back to the program. She is always a lively and engaging guest and a part of the show’s successful history.”
Naturally, my personal hope is that this return engagement will precipitate many stories -- most of them on radar -- that Rosie is returning to "The View" because no one is watching the show any more, and it's become dull as cold toast since Jenny McCarthy has joined up. And hopefully those stories will even come true.
