WHITE PLAINS - Nick Spano, a former state senator and Westchester GOP chairman, spent nearly 30 years in Albany and will now spend a year in prison for tax fraud.

The Spano family has long been considered a political dynasty in Yonkers and Westchester politics. Spano's younger brother, Mike, is currently six months into his new job as the Democratic mayor of Yonkers.

Nick Spano’s luck began to run out in 2006, when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Andrea Stewart Cousins.

Federal investigators began to take a hard look at Nick Spano's finances after attorney Anthony Mangone and former Yonkers GOP chair Zehy Jereis were both convicted of helping Sandy Annabi sell her City Council votes on a controversial development.
