Outdoor shelters for feral cats on Long Island
October 2, 2008
I have two indoor cats that I adore. But my major concern right now is for the two feral cats that I have begun caring for since early March. Do you know of anyone who makes outdoor cat shelters? I have searched on the Web, and have found companies that make them. However, I don't know what exactly to look for in a cat shelter. Some shelters are quite expensive, more than $200, and some are more reasonable, less than $100. I am not particularly handy. Making a shelter may not be my forte. Any advice?

Teach your children well: Fish betta than Xbox
August 28, 2008
Most kids these days would rather look at an Xbox than a 10-gallon fish tank, but all is not lost. Introducing youngsters to fish-keeping can end well if you set things up for success. Since the first step is choosing species that are survivors, here are five candidates for the newbie's fish tank.

When marriage goes to the dogs, who gets them?
May 15, 2008
For many of us, dogs are substitute children (or ancillary ones, at least). So it should come as no surprise that when marriages break up, as they are wont to do, that custody of the cockapoo can become a pitched battle.

Noisy Lovebird Seeks Attention
January 28, 2003
Q. My sister has a 6-year-old male lovebird who is peppy and very bright. I have come to live with her and the bird remembers me because I taught him how to talk and gave him a lot of my attention in the past. From the moment he hears me in the morning, he screams constantly. If I don't go let him out or give him the attention he craves, he will scream and flap his wings every six seconds for hours! It has left us with migraines.
