Dry Wells
Q. Can you recommend companies that install dry wells for storm water runoff?
-Carole Wilkinson, Bellmore
A. It would be unethical for me to recommend specific contractors for installation, but I can tell you that some masonry supply and building supply companies do sell polyolefin drywells (plastic chambers) for such use. These plastic chambers for storm water runoff (the water that drains from the roof though the gutter system) have become the standard for the building industry. They are light, easy to install and have replaced concrete wells in most installations. To start, try these manufacturers: Infiltrator Systems Inc., in Old Saybrook, Conn. (888-335-3884; www.infiltratorsystems.com); and Cultec Inc. in Brookfield, Conn. (203-775-4416; www.cultec.com).
You also might try Andrew Carlson & Sons Inc. in Kings Park, which makes pre-cast concrete drywells and also sells the plastic chambers.
